The presidential campaign in the USA grabbed the global imagination. It also impressed the feminist imagination, presenting the hope that if a woman could become the President of the USA, women would finally break through the reinforced glass ceiling. It was the name calling that really smarted - "nasty women." Trump called ("crooked") Hillary a nasty woman and by doing so, he called all who stand up for women's humanity and women's rights "nasty women. The editors of this collection were inspired by the ensuing women's marches all over the world. In Cape Town, South Africa, an idea was born, cradled and nurtured by a group of feminists to write their own interpretations of events, using the marches and the way in which it galvanised women into action. Maybe it was time women showed the world what nasty women are capable of when they pick up pens! While the collection brings together a range of different voices, in different spaces and from different contextual realities, they all speak to a story of how we are trying to live out our feminism in ways that contribute towards social change. These are stories that speak to the creation of a different kind of social order, one based on equity, the promotion of human rights and social justice.
